Metro School Named Among Best in the Country
Lockeland Design Center Elementary named a 2019 National Blue Ribbon School.
Lockeland Design Center Elementary is a 2019 National Blue Ribbon School, one of 362 schools in the country and six schools in Tennessee to receive this recognition.
The Blue Ribbon Award is a prestigious national award presented to schools of excellence.
Led by Principal Christie Conyers Lewis, Lockeland joins a class of 16 other MNPS Blue Ribbon Schools since the program’s start in 1982.
Lockeland earned the Exemplary High Performing Schools status, indicating the highest achieving students (the top 15%) in English and math, as measured by state assessments.
According to the U.S. Department of Education, Lockeland's “combination of top quality instruction, unrivaled creativity and community support have helped transform this neighborhood school in the city into one of the best schools in the country.”
Lockeland has also been named a Tennessee Reward School annually since 2011, the award’s inaugural year.
“We are honored to be a 2019 National Blue Ribbon School”, said Principal Lewis. “This award affirms the hard work of our students and teachers, as well as the ongoing support of our parents and Lockeland community."
